At the present time about 7.5% of the floodplain area has protected area status.. Management of the area is conducted by the Nature Conservation Authority, however a lack of financial resources severely limits them in their activities. they are severely limited in their activites They have stated that they will cooperate in pushing for placing additional sites under protection, and in deciding on appropriate management for areas which are un-protected but are extensively managed.
