The nature conservation problems that we experience these days in the floodplains of the Tisza derive from the river regulation works in the 19th century. It is now known that under normal market circumstances the flood threatened arable lands are not profitable. Moreover, it is over-production that is typical of agriculture in Europe, so instead of conventional intensive farming traditional, extensive land use should be reintroduced. The project aims to maintain and - where possible - improve the biological diversity of the region.
